Ready to join? Here's what membership involves, why the federation registration matters, and how to take the next step.
Try before you sign
You're welcome to visit and train as a guest before committing. Most people come a few times first. There's no pressure to sign up on day one — we'd rather you were sure.
What membership includes
- Regular access to classes and instruction.
- Guidance through the Seitei kata and, in time, the Musō Shinden-ryū curriculum.
- The path to formal grading (shinsa) recognised across the federation.
- Access to regional seminars and taikai with visiting senior teachers.
Federation registration
Musokai members hold individual membership in the Pacific Northwest Kendo Federation (PNKF), which includes de facto membership in the All United States Kendo Federation (AUSKF). All certificates of rank are issued under the authority of these federations. This is what gives your grading real standing — your rank is recognised wherever the federation reaches, not just inside our dojo.
New members receive our etiquette and ranking guidelines document, which sets out how the dojo runs, how grading works, and what's expected of members. Ask an instructor for a copy, or pick it up at the dojo.
How to start the process
The simplest route is to get in touch or speak to an instructor at the end of a class. They'll walk you through membership and the federation paperwork. If you haven't trained with us yet, start with Getting Started and come to a class first.
